Privacy Policy

1. Who We Are

Clever Cupboard ("we", "us", "our") is a personal recipe, pantry and meal planning app operated by Kneeko Co. This policy covers the Clever Cupboard iOS app and the clever-cupboard.com website. It explains what data we collect, how we use it, who we share it with, and your choices.

2. What We Collect

We collect only what we need to run the app:

• Account details — your email address and password. Your password is stored securely by our authentication provider; we never see it in plain text.
• Profile details — display name, username and bio, if you choose to add them.
• Your kitchen data — recipes you save, pantry and fridge items, shopping lists, meal plans and calendar entries, and app settings such as timer sounds, synced across your devices.
• Content you send to AI features — photos, recipe links, pasted text, pantry item lists and ingredient lists you choose to send for processing (see section 5). We keep the results you save, such as an imported recipe. We do not keep the photos you scan on our servers after they are processed.
• Community data — communities you create or join, your role, join requests and their status, invite codes, recipes you share, and ratings you give.
• Subscription status — whether you have Clever Cupboard Pro, plus the Apple transaction identifiers needed to verify your purchase. We never receive your payment card details.
• Suggestions and feedback you choose to submit.
• AI usage records — which AI feature you used, when, and how many times, so we can apply daily usage limits.
• Technical logs — such as IP address, device and app version, and request times, kept by our service providers for security and troubleshooting.

3. What We Do NOT Collect

• We do not collect your payment card information.
• We do not track your location.
• We do not access your photo library beyond the photos you choose.
• We do not track you across other companies' apps or websites.
• We do not sell your data to anyone, ever.
• We do not show ads or share your information with advertisers.

4. How We Use Your Data

We use your data only to provide and improve Clever Cupboard:

• To create and manage your account.
• To store and sync your recipes, pantry, shopping lists and meal plans across devices.
• To run the AI features you choose to use, and to apply daily AI usage limits.
• To run communities, including sending join requests to community owners and admins.
• To verify your subscription with Apple.
• To read and act on suggestions you submit.
• To send account emails, such as sign-up confirmation and password reset.
• To keep the app secure and fix problems.

5. AI Features

Some features use cloud AI: importing a recipe from a photo, link or pasted text; scanning a fridge, pantry, receipt or shopping list; Cook from Pantry; and ingredient accessibility scores. When you use one, we send the content needed for that request to Anthropic (Claude). If Anthropic is unavailable, the same request may be sent to OpenAI instead. They process it and return the result to us.

The app asks for your permission before it sends anything to these AI providers. You can turn AI features off at any time in Profile > Settings > AI Features. While they are off, AI features will not run and nothing is sent to these providers.

Please avoid including sensitive personal information in photos or text you send to AI features. We do not use your content to train AI models.

6. Third-Party Services

We use these service providers to run the app. Each has its own privacy policy, and we share only what they need to provide their service:

• Supabase — database, sign-in and file storage (supabase.com).
• Anthropic — AI processing for the features in section 5 (anthropic.com).
• OpenAI — backup AI processing when Anthropic is unavailable (openai.com).
• Apple — App Store subscriptions, purchase restoration and subscription status (apple.com).
• Expo — delivers app updates; receives basic device and app version information (expo.dev).
• Vercel — hosts our website and community invite links (vercel.com).
• ImprovMX — forwards emails sent to our support addresses (improvmx.com).

7. Community Sharing

If you share a recipe publicly, other Clever Cupboard users can see it, along with your display name or username if you have set one. Your email address is never shown publicly. You can make a recipe private again at any time by turning off "Share to Community" when you edit the recipe.

In a private community, members can see the recipes shared there and the names of other members. When you ask to join a private community, its owners and admins see your request, including your display name or username, and decide whether to approve it. Invite links contain only an invite code.

8. Data Storage & Security

Your data is stored with Supabase, which encrypts data in transit (TLS) and at rest. We use Row Level Security so users can access only their own data and the community content they are allowed to see.

No method of electronic storage is 100% secure. We take reasonable measures to protect your data but cannot guarantee absolute security.

9. Data Retention & Account Deletion

We keep your data for as long as your account is active. You can delete your account at any time in the app: Profile > Settings > Delete Account. This permanently deletes your account and your recipes, pantry data and settings.

After you delete your account, your personal data is removed within 30 days, except where we must keep it for legal reasons.

10. Your Rights

You have the right to:

• Access the personal data we hold about you.
• Correct inaccurate data.
• Delete your data, including by deleting your account in the app.
• Export your data in a portable format.
• Withdraw consent, including turning off AI features in Settings.

11. Do Not Track

Some browsers send a "Do Not Track" signal. There is no common standard for responding to it, so Clever Cupboard does not respond to Do Not Track signals. We do not track you across other websites or apps, and we do not allow third parties to track you through Clever Cupboard.

12. Children's Privacy

Clever Cupboard is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will delete it.

13. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will change the date at the top of this page. Continued use of the app after changes are posted means you accept the updated policy.
